At the age
of 16, Andrew obtained his first certificate in
broadcasting from Petersham TAFE, and he also began
training with Australia’s foremost teacher in
broadcasting, Mr. Max Rowley.
By gaining work experience in the radio industry at
Australian sport-radio station, 2KY, he hungered for
more. Having been to numerous radio stations and seeking
experience and contact with professional radio DJ's,
Andrew is slowly working his way up the radio industry
ladder with a desire to become a true professional
broadcaster.
His on-air career began at Burwood community radio
station, 2RDJ in August 2003. He joined 'The Teen-Age',
a current affairs type program written, produced and
presented by youth, and aimed at a youth audience.
While working at 2RDJ, Andrew began to sit in with other
presenters, and discovered new genres of music and
learning new skills. In December 2004, Andrew was
offered a Sunday shift, from 1pm till 2.30pm, to do an
easy-listening type show, titled "Lazy Sunday".
Andrew accepted the shift, and has slowly altered the
show to a more modern and upbeat style of show. In April
2005, the original name, “Lazy Sunday”, was changed to
“The Andrew Beale Show" to reflect current trends. The
music was changed slightly to a more modern day rock and
electronic sound, but still with many classic songs.
June 5th, 2005 saw a new era begin for “The Andrew Beale
Show” when it became a two hour show, from 1pm ‘til 3pm.
This was a major turning point for the show, allowing
for a wider range of music to be included.
The major criterion for the show is “if it’s good –
we’ll play it”. You can expect to hear anything from
Rock to Blues with Indie, Grunge, Electronica, New Wave,
Ska and Pop and even a little humour thrown in for good
measure!
Andrew gained even more experience throughout 2006.
Whilst completing a certificate in Digital Media, Andrew
was producing at Radio 2SER for a show titled The Daily.
He also gained valuable experience at SKY News Australia
in September, 2006.
The Andrew Beale Show now has a heavy focus on
Independent Australian music, along with hits from the
70's, 80's and today. |
